Description
A vulnerability in the vmadmin CLI of Cisco Umbrella Virtual Appliance could allow an authenticated, local attacker to elevate privileges on an affected device.
This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied commands. An attacker with vmadmin privileges could exploit this vulnerability by using certain commands at the CLI. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to elevate privileges to root.

The vulnerability exists in the vmadmin CLI of Cisco Umbrella Virtual Appliance. An authenticated attacker with vmadmin-level local access can execute specially crafted commands that bypass normal permission checks due to insufficient input validation, allowing privilege escalation to root.
Mitigation
Apply the vendor patch from Cisco when available. Until then, limit vmadmin account access to trusted administrators only and monitor for suspicious CLI usage patterns.
