Description
A command injection vulnerability has been reported to affect QTS and QuTS hero. If exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands in a compromised application. A command injection vulnerability in QNAP QTS and QuTS hero NAS firmware allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary operating system commands through a compromised application. This occurs due to insufficient input validation in certain application functions, enabling an attacker to inject shell metacharacters or commands that are then executed with elevated privileges.
Mitigation
Apply the appropriate QTS or QuTS hero firmware version for your release branch as specified in the vendor advisory. Prioritize internet-facing NAS systems and ensure the admin interface is not directly exposed to untrusted networks.
